About Brandon

"I create music that is inspired by my emotions and imagination, aiming to bring both beautiful and bizarre images to life within my listeners' heads by telling stories through sound."

Brandon Lin is a trombonist, bassist, composer, and arranger originally from Taiwan. His playing is consistently described as being filled with expressive and creative energy, and his music draws from visual art, fantasy, and personal experiences.

Primarily known for his voice on trombone, graduated from Berklee College of Music Magna Cum Laude as a Slaight Family Scholar, having studied with esteemed artists including Terrence Blanchard, Marshall Gilkes, and Tiger Okoshi. It was a distinct honor for him to immerse into the music of Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers with Ralph Peterson, Blakey’s protégé, and to go on to write for and play in Peterson’s “GenNext Big Band.” Together with this ensemble, he has worked on two albums with Peterson’s fellow Messengers alumni Donald Harrison and Frank Lacy, and performed at DC Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Club, and Sculler’s Jazz Club.

During his time at Berklee, Brandon would occasionally leave to tour with Harpdog Brown, a three times Maple Blues Awards-winning vocalist and harmonica player. He has appeared with Brown’s “Uptown Blues Band” at festivals and venues all around North America, such as the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival, The Triple Door (Seattle), and Upstairs Jazz Bar (Montreal).

As a composer, Brandon has been commissioned to write for the “Sounds of World” ensemble from the Cambridge of School of Weston, and in the previous year he was selected to take part in Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program at The John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts. Under the direction of Jason Moran, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and many other artists associated with Carter, the residency culminated in three nights of performances on the Millennium Stage at Kennedy Centre featuring all original music written and developed by the participants.

Brandon’s most notable work on bass has been with Noble Pedro, a band that he founded with peers from Berklee that he has toured with around the East Coast and produced three records with. Additionally, he has collaborated with Taiwanese producer and artist Jerry Li. tracking both bass and trombone, and contributing to songwriting for Li’s debut album Stay Sober (2017), a record that lead to Li’s nomination of Best New Artist at the 29th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan.
